KSG Signature Guitars was founded in Midland, Texas during July 2009. Following two years of research and development undertaken with the help of major manufacturers in China and numerable seasoned area musicians, KSG officially launched in November, 2010. The company's establishment, albeit a brief history, stems from life-long inspiration, explains owner and president Klaus Schmid.

"For about two decades, my guitar sat on a shelf collecting dust; thirty years ago, it may as well have been an appendage. But with my daughter's involvement in the regional music scene and the enthusiasm of my family, I dusted off my father's old box and began playing again."

As time progressed, Schmid started searching for a new, electric instrument. But what he found was an overwhelming market of guitars with prices as high as their quality. Through his dealings in China, he came in contact with several instrument manufacturers, two of which provide parts and assorted hardware to major-label manufacturers in the United States.

"It was like the blind leading the blind without the aid of a seeing-eye dog," Schmid says of his beginnings into instrument production research. "What I learned was this: There is a multitude of instruments and related components produced globally, some of which are of top-notch quality, others of which are absolute junk. But through trial-and-error, and the aid of musicians and manufacturers, we managed to assemble a line of instruments that are not only high-quality, but affordable. Most of my guitars are of the set-neck variety, my personal preference and the industry standard for professional playing."

As a result of research and innumerable trials, KSG Signature Guitars originally manufactured some160 pre-production models in 14 different styles and configurations. Some of our guitars are simply reproductions of classic styles with hardware upgrades. Others are completely custom from concept to completion, to meet our stringent standards.

KSG Signature Guitars produces 600 guitars annually, which are available through dealers and online. Production is an ever-evolving process, implementing feedback and reviews from artists and teachers across the nation to influence further development.
